Jennifer Whitmore TD, Social Democrats spokesperson for Children, has called on the Government parties to allow a vote of conscience on controversial legislation that would seal the records of the Commission of Investigation into Mother and Baby homes for 30 years.

Deputy Whitmore said:

“This is a very emotive and sensitive issue. I have spoken to members across the House and there is much unease about this Bill and the devastating impact it will have on survivors and their families.

“In light of that and the fact that some members have their own personal stories that they may wish to keep private, I have called for a vote on conscience to be allowed on this very important issue.”
