The Residential Tenancies Board has revealed there were 4,753 eviction notices issued between January and March this year

New figures released by the Residential Tenancies Board highlight the need for the Government to immediately reinstate the eviction ban, according to Social Democrats TD Cian O’Callaghan.

Deputy O’Callaghan, who is the party’s housing spokesperson, said:

“The figures show that 4,753 eviction notices were issued to tenants for the first three months of this year. With more and more landlords exiting the rental market and selling their properties, the data suggests we can expect to see in the region of 20,000 notices to quit this year.

“There is a human story behind every eviction. These figures come just days after the number of people living in emergency homeless accommodation rose above 12,000 for the first time – the highest level in the history of the State.

“The Government must immediately reinstate the eviction ban and significantly ramp-up the delivery of cost-rental, affordable purchase and social homes.”
