Social Democrats TD for Dublin Bay North, Cian O’Callaghan, has warned that a decision by Dublin Bus to withdraw a number of dedicated school bus services in Sutton, Tallaght, Templeogue and Greenhills will hit families financially and lead to increased traffic congestion.
Deputy O’Callaghan said:
“For students who can’t avail of a lift from parents, it will cost families in excess of a thousand euro to organise private bus hire. These routes serve school students where there are no public transport alternatives and are a vital service.
“In addition, putting thousands of extra cars on the road in the mornings is bad for the environment, bad for traffic congestion and will cause significant stress for families.
“The current pandemic should not be used as cover for introducing cuts to services that are working well and providing a reliable and efficient service. I’m calling on the National Transport Authority to provide replacement services for these important school routes.”
