Social Democrats Councillor Jennifer Whitmore has called on Iarnród Éireann to offer refunds to Wicklow rail commuters in recognition of the service disruptions to passengers over the coming week.
Cllr Whitmore said:
“Major service disruptions on the Greystones DART line are set to continue over the coming week as a result of fire damage which occurred at Bray last Friday.
“This means that there will be no service between Greystones and Bray, and a limited bus transfer service will be available instead. In addition, services between Bray and Dalkey will be limited over the coming week.
“When I queried with Irish Rail whether there would be enough bus capacity, a representative said that it would be difficult to provide matching capacity for normal peak time rail numbers. This would indicate that there will be significant issues for commuters in particular and I would imagine most will try to avoid traveling by train if at all possible.”
Cllr Whitmore continued: “In light of this, I believe that Irish Rail should offer refunds to those passengers with annual or monthly travel tickets – and I have written to Irish Rail to request that this happens. Dublin Bus and Irish Rail should also work together to ensure that as many additional buses as possible are put on for peak times.”
