Róisín Shortall, TD and co-leader of the Social Democrats, has called on the Tánaiste Leo Varadkar to clarify his comments made in the Dáil today that, “People coming into the island for any reason are being asked to restrict their movements, not self-isolate or quarantine, for 14 days.”

Deputy Shortall said, “There has been considerable confusion among the travelling public about Government’s mixed messages on quarantining. Given the public’s concern about the importation of the virus, we need to hear urgently from the Government with clarification on what exactly the current regulations are, and furthermore how they intend to strengthen the regulations in order to limit the risk posed by those people travelling from countries that have high incidences of the virus or are not on the promised green list.

“In view of this urgent need, the Tánaiste’s comments today serve to further muddy the waters on what should be a crystal clear message.”
