The Social Democrats have today announced spokesperson roles for the 33rd Dáil.
Co-leader Catherine Murphy said:
“In announcing our spokesperson roles today, I am confirming that the Social Democrats will continue to work as we did in the last Dáil – by being constructive and practical but also by not being afraid to ask the tough questions and hold the new Government to account.
“We will support any social democratic solutions to problems and will be forceful in rejecting any measures that are regressive or seek to impose an uneven recovery or austerity on ordinary households as we emerge from this Covid crisis.”
Co-leader Róisín Shortall added:
“In this year’s General Election, our party grew from two to six TDs. For our part, the expanded Social Democrats group will play a constructive and positive role in this Dáil and will fight unapologetically for a fair society based on high quality universal public services and for the kind of politics which challenges the many vested interests in Irish society.”
The spokespeople are:
- Co-leader Róisín Shortall TD is the spokesperson on Health; Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform.
- Co-leader Catherine Murphy TD is the spokesperson on Justice; Enterprise, Trade and Employment; Transport and Sport.
- Cian O’Callaghan TD is the spokesperson on Housing; Foreign and European Affairs and Defence.
- Jennifer Whitmore TD is the spokesperson on Climate; Communications Networks; Biodiversity; Children, Disability, Equality and Integration.
- Gary Gannon TD is the spokesperson on Education; Social Protection; Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht.
- Holly Cairns TD is the spokesperson on Agriculture and Higher Education.
