Meet Mary

Mary Roche is the Social Democrats councillor for Waterford City East on Waterford City & County Council.

First elected in 1999. Mary Roche joined the Social Democrats in November 2022 having spent the better part of the last 20 years as an Independent member of Waterford City and County Council. Mary represents Waterford City East LEA and is an outspoken campaigner on many local, regional and national issues in the areas of education, health, local government and social issues.

Mary’s background is in communications and she ran her own Public Relations company prior to taking up a career in politics.

She has held many positions both locally and nationally and is a former Director of Waterford Chamber of Commerce, and Chair of the National Fire Safety Committee of the National Safety Council.

She spent time on the governing body of Waterford Institute of Technology (now SETU) and as Chairperson of Waterford Area Partnership, Waterford Youth Committee, and was a member of Waterford Wexford ETB.

She served as Mayor of Waterford City in 2010/11 and believes passionately in making politics deliver.
