Meet Gary

Gary Gannon is a TD for Dublin Central.

Throughout his career in politics, which includes six years as a Dublin City Councillor representing the North Inner City and a candidacy for the European Parliament, Gary has focused on pursuing equality of opportunity in education, the provision of adequate services for those in need, and the rejuvenation of our capital city.

Gary has actively campaigned for a cross-departmental task force to look at the issues Dublin faces, from crime and safety to culture and the arts.

He has also been a long-time advocate for ending Israel’s imposition of an apartheid state on Palestinians and their land.

Above all else, Gary believes in civic contribution; only through participation can real progress be truly achieved.

I believe politics is about increasing the minimums a person should expect from living in a republic, be that in education, health or quality of life.

Gary’s Priorities

  • Achieve the Minimal Essential Standard of Living (MESL) for all by providing services and supports which ensure everyone can live a life with dignity.
  • Improve the quality of education delivered at primary and secondary level.
  • Broaden access to 3rd and 4th level institutions.
  • Treat addiction with health-based solutions, as opposed to criminalising those trapped in its throes.
  • Reduce crime through a form of municipal policing which focuses on community interaction and partnerships.
  • Create greater cultural infrastructure, including spaces for performance, visual arts and third places for social cohesion and expression.
  • Prevent Ireland from entering or sustaining non-ethical trade agreements with any state which violates human rights agreements, are complicit in illegally occupying land, or imposes apartheid upon another people.
