Clare Claffey is the Social Democrats councillor for Birr on Offaly County Council.
Clare is passionate about family, community and equality.
Clare through her work at local and national level with Friends of Breastfeeding has co-ordinated the provision of peer to peer support services for mothers and has advocated for gender equality in the workplace. Clare sees the great need to support all families at all stages of life and believes the key to building this support is through the development of local government.
Clare entered politics through her involvement with grassroots activism. She has campaigned with the Offaly Together for Yes group and parent support groups. She has developed an understanding and enthusiasm for how local government can address issues such as public housing, community, youth facilities and the provision of accessible healthcare at local level.
Clare lives in Banagher, Co. Offaly with her husband Ciaran and seven children. Having children with long term health issues and having come through financial difficulties in the past, Clare knows first-hand the struggles faced by young families in Ireland today.
