Cllr Ronan Moore, Social Democrats, has called on Meath residents both young and old for ideas on how to make Meath a better place to live in. He is asking for people to send in their ‘One Big Idea’ via social media or post, after which he will select a winning one and commit to working on it over the next 12 months.
Cllr Moore explains: “As I enter into my second year as an elected representative I want to really try and have community voices heard at council level and in doing so start a grassroots conversation on what matters to us as people. And I think there are so many people out there with something to say and really great ideas on how to make our county and communities better. Indeed, as the country moves out of lockdown, people have had time to reflect on what is important to their lives as well as look at their community in a new light and this is what I want to tap into.”
Drawing on inspiration from other parts of the country such as Limerick and Offaly, where his SocDem colleagues have successfully carried out similar initiatives Ronan’s idea for Meath is different in one particular way.
Cllr Moore says: “While it is ‘One Big Idea’, really I want three as I open up the initiative to primary school children; secondary school students; and adults. When I first became aware of this idea from my colleague in Limerick, it reminded me of a letter I received from a little girl in Longwood not long before last year’s local election. In it she outlined her own ideas for making her village a safer, cleaner and better place to live in. It reminded me that when it comes to great ideas, age is not a factor. In fact, sometimes those who are younger can see solutions to age-old problems simply because they look at these challenges with fresh ideas. As a teacher I have been constantly reminded of this so I particularly look forward in seeing what is sent into me.”
To send in your “One Big Idea”, you can email Ronan directly at ronan.moore@socialdemocrats.ie or post it to Cllr. Ronan Moore, Meath County Council, Buvinda House, Dublin Road, Navan, County Meath C15 Y291
The closing date for entries is July 2nd with the three winners being announced the following week.
