Social Democrats Housing Spokesperson and T.D. for Dublin Bay North, Cian O’Callaghan is calling on Minister O’Brien, Minister Donnelly & Minister Feighan to reverse cuts to homeless mental health services.

Deputy O’Callaghan said:

‘When it comes to services and supports for those that are homeless, actions speak louder than words. Today Minister O’Brien, Minister Donnelly & Minister Feighan said that supporting those who are homeless is a priority – all the while funding for crucial mental health services for the homeless are being cut.

“In reply to a parliamentary question (No 12238/20), the HSE confirmed to me that funding for the access community mental health team has fallen by €87,122 in the last two years and it expects the same reduced funding for next year. This 13% cut for a crucial service is unacceptable.

‘Those who are homeless and vulnerable need our care and support now more than ever.

“I’m again calling on  Minister O’Brien, Minister Donnelly & Minister Feighan to restore funding for this and other vital services for those that are homeless. The Government’s commitment to those that are homelessness must be demonstrated through actions and outcomes and not more empty words.”
