Delays in providing legal aid are totally unacceptable

Issues causing fresh delays to the Stardust Inquest, which was due to commence in October, must be resolved immediately, according to Social Democrats Dublin Bay North TD Cian O’Callaghan.

“Past promises of legal aid for the Stardust families must be honoured. The new delay in providing this legal aid is totally unacceptable.

“The families who lost loved ones in the Stardust tragedy are yet again being let down and left waiting by the State.

“The families have said that the Government is making a very difficult time worse. The Justice for Stardust campaign say they feel like the Government is rubbing salt in their wounds.

“The issue with legal aid must be resolved urgently to allow the inquest to get underway without delay.

“I am calling on the Minister for Justice to remove the blockage to legal aid to allow the inquest to start.”
