Meet Chris

Chris Pender is the Social Democrats councillor for Newbridge on Kildare County Council.

Born in Dublin and Newbridge-bound since my teens, my education at St Conleths and NUI Maynooth fuelled my passion for community. My involvement has ranged from volunteering at Newbridge Family Resource Centre to leading KLGBT.

As a director of the Newbridge Family Resource Centre, South Western Regional Drugs and Alcohol Task Force, and previously with Hope(D), I’ve worked at the intersection of mental health and addiction.

My committee roles, including the Housing Strategic Policy Committee, Joint Policing Committee, and Newbridge Forum, shape my advocacy in the council.

As a devoted Social Democrat, I’ve collaborated on projects from urban art to transport links.

When I’m not in the council chamber, you might find me immersed in gaming. Since 2019, my mission remains: creating an inclusive, supportive community where policies mirror grassroots realities.

Every community, every voice, deserves to be heard and uplifted. It’s not just about better streets or policies; it’s about building a world where everyone feels they belong and thrive.

Chris’s Priorities

  • Grassroots Community Engagement: Promote policies that resonate with community needs, emphasising his background in Community Development and Youth Work.
  • Mental Health & Addiction Support: Enhance mental health resources and addiction support services, reflecting his roles with key regional organisations.
  • Enhanced Public Transport: Expand efficient transport links for rural towns and villages to larger urban centres.
  • Urban Beautification: Elevate Newbridge’s appeal through projects like the water tower mural.
  • Addressing Housing and Homelessness: Tackle housing challenges and homelessness, ensuring safe housing for all residents.
  • Promotion of Arts, Culture, and Hobbies: Create spaces for residents to pursue diverse passions, from gaming to theatre.
  • Worker’s Rights and Social Justice: Advocate for workers’ rights, exemplified by supporting the Debenhams workers, and promote broader social justice causes.
