Meet Aidan

Aidan Farrelly is the Social Democrats councillor for Clane on Kildare County Council.

Aidan is a Youth and Community Development Worker, and a resident in Prosperous, having grown up in Clane.

Aidan is a Team Leader with Kildare Youth Services, and opened the first Youth Project in Clane in 2008. Since then he has worked in many communities throughout Kildare including Naas, Celbridge, Allenwood, Prosperous, Rathangan and others. Current Chairperson of the Prosperous Youth Club, and former Vice-Chairperson of the local Community Association, Aidan has developed a thorough understanding of the lived experience across communities throughout his constituency.

Aidan has also worked as a local media correspondent for the communities of Clane, Prosperous/Caragh and Allen/Coill Dubh – providing further opportunities to listen to, learn from and support the work of countless social and community groups throughout North Kildare.

Aidan is married with three children, and it’s his experience of having a young family in North Kildare that has encouraged him to seek change, with issues such as childcare, access to education and lack of affordable housing contributing to his commitment to a fairer, more equal society.

A recent graduate of Maynooth University with a MSOCSC in Community and Youth Work, Aidan studied at undergraduate level in Carlow College with a BA in Applied Social Studies.
